If your visiting Indianapolis or live here, let Have Teens Still Travel help you find some fun family adventures in the Indy area.
One: Visit a local Park. Our favorite is Koteewi Park- This new county park is located in Noblesville. Grab a picnic lunch and head out for the day. There is plenty of exhilarating activities! Start with an hour or two at the archery range. Then fly off into the tree tops on one of Indy's best aerial rope courses (they have six different courses at different experience levels, starting at age 8) . After your picnic, end the afternoon with a hike or horseback ride. My family loves this park!! So much to do and explore. Other great parks with multiple activities include:
Two: Children's Museum- Indy has the number one Children's Museum in the nation, and now it has a brand new outdoor sports complex. From Dinosaurs to Egyptian mummies, science experiments to space exploration, the Children's Museum has something for everyone.
Three: White River State Park- Plan to spend an entire day here. My teens love the Canal Walk; this is a three mile loop with restaurants and art along with attractions. You can take a segway tour, rent a surrey bike or a paddle boat on the canal. Visit the Indiana State Museum, the NCAA Hall of Champions, The Indianapolis Zoo, The Eiteljorg Museum, or even catch a baseball game at Victory Field!
Four: Conner Prairie- Is an interactive history museum, where history comes to life. Join the Union and train as a Civil War soldier, visit a Lenape Indian camp and see how they hunted and try throwing a tomahawk, or visit Prarietown and interact with the townspeople. Over the summer, grab a lawn chair and snacks and come out to listen to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at Symphony on the Prairie. You can even take a balloon voyage 1859 style!
Five: SPORTS!! Indianapolis has a ton of sporting events. Catch one of them or all of them. Indy is home to:
The Indianapolis Colts, NFL
The Indiana Pacers, NBA
The Indiana Fever, WBNA
Indy Fuel, ECHL (East Coast Hockey League)
Indy Eleven, USL (US Soccer League)
The Indianapolis Indians, MLB AAA affiliate to the Pittsburgh Pirates
Indianapolis Motor Speedway- IndyCar Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500, NASCAR BrickYard 400, RedBull Air Race
Lucus Oil Raceway - Drag racing
